Presidents Report Table of Contents

Welcome members and guests to the Clubs October to November newsletter. Unfortunately the Club has lost the services of our hard working treasure Bruce Mulligan to family commitments, Bruce will certainly be missed on the committee and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bruce on behalf of the board and members for the time and effort he has put into this position.

Presently the financial position of the Club is stable with most areas of the business being near or better than budget, the board and management is working hard to make sure these trends continue.

Apart from the financial position of the Club the other area of concern is water, the board has formed a sub committee to look into the immediate and long term availability of water for the course, they will look at test bores on the course and work with council for the use of water from Sewerage treatment works which would be of benefit both to the Club and council, also investigate were and what grants are available to the Club.

You will have noticed that the TAB has been moved to the gaming room which makes it closer to the terminal and save the punters a twenty meter dash to place their bets, it will also open the lounge up to familys and other in the lounge who dont have to listen to the vocal roar of punters urging their horse home, also punters will be closer to the bar and smoking area which should be good for the Clubs trade in this area.

Plans for the new golf cart sheds have been submitted to council for approval, so we should see construction start soon, any member wishing to purchase a shed contact Graham Withers for details.

To Darren and his staff we thank you for the very good presentation of our course under very tough conditions.

Happy Golfing.

Hello everyone, well spring is here and still no rain! Over the past two months we have formed a water sub committee, this committee consists of Graeme Chester (C) John Taylor, Graham Withers, Richard Sargood, Darren Harvey and myself. This committee is looking at all our options for water including recycled sewage water, purchasing more river water and improving the volume of bore water we can pump. We believe that improving our bore is our best and most cost efficient option at this point in time. This means we will be drilling another bore hole; it will share the existing infrastructure and will be pumping from our existing bore stream. The water committees long term goal is to drought proof or do the very best we can for the future. River water is currently selling for approx $1240.00 per meg which makes it very hard to impossible for us to purchase water at that cost.

Our TAB has been moved and it looks great. Its not quite finished but everyone seems happy with what we have done so far. If it encourages people to stay and have another drink or bring other people to the Club it has done its job, its all about generating income for us to survive.

We seemed to have lost two of our eskies from the bar. We occasionally let them out for people to use on the course or to take on golf trips. If anyone has them in their shed and forgotten to return them, or you know where they are please can we have them returned, thanks.

We have had some enquiries about sub renewals for this year. Renewals will go out with the annual reports as they have in the past. Your renewal amount is for 9 months only; the membership year is now from 1st October to 30th September, and for the next membership year 2008/2009 renewals will be sent out in September. Anyone who joins as a new member from the 1st October this year will pay a full 12 month fee. The 12 month membership fees are the same as last year. We have introduced a new membership category starting as of the 1st

October; this is an 18 to 25 membership and is to encourage juniors to continue as members. We hope that the drop from $315.00 to $130.00 will make it affordable for more juniors to stay with us and indeed join the Club. The weekday social membership is available for renewal but is no longer a membership category for 2007/2008. So if you are a current weekday social members dont worry you can renew for this year.

Our AGM is scheduled for Monday the 10th December, with nomination forms available for the board from the 24th October. There will be more information posted on the notice boards etc closer to the date.

Our cart shed project is underway with the development application being submitted to Council in the second half of September. We have had a bit of a hiccup with position and car parking but hopefully we have that sorted. We would ask those with trailers to park in the designated trailer parking area near the front gate, this leaves car parks available for cars, especially now as it becomes busy, thank you.

Megan and Kylie are nearing their baby dates with Megans last day being Friday the 5th October and Kylies is on Thursday 8th November. We wish them all the best and we have not forgotten Darren Harvey and his wife Shelly who are expecting their second baby in October. Hayley will be doing Megans job and Sue Reiner will be filling in for Kylie, so please be patient with them as they may not know everything straight away.

The year is moving fast, Christmas is around the corner and then we will be straight into 2008. I have no doubt it will be another hard year for many people, the Club included with water being the major issue for everyone. Perhaps we should organize a rain dance, anything that might help!

Also a big congratulations to Michelle from the bar for winning Miss Charity in the Corowa Show Girl Competition. Michelle raised a total amount of $2004.00 which is a sensational effort.

Well done!

In a bunker, a players ball lies against a rake.

A small cluster of eucalypt tree tips and leaves lies on top of the rake in such a position that the player cannot remove the rake without also moving the cluster of leaves.

Under Rule 24, the player is entitled to remove the rake, but under Rule 23 is not

entitled to move the cluster of tree tips and leaves. What is the procedure!

CAPTAIN'S CORNER Table of Contents

Unfortunately no rain as yet but the course is surviving remarkably well. The greens are also recovering from the coring slower than usual also due to lack of rain.

We had two sponsored days which both bumped up the numbers on those two Sundays. Thanks to the Arcade Jewellers and Corowa Garden Supplies.

We also had two charity days; the Corowa Tourism Day where 74 players participated and the Search and Rescue Day which was very successful and ultimately raised $11,000.00 for them. The Spring Tournament went off very well being ablely sponsored by Bullers Wines — Thanks to them.

Two of the Clubs Championship Match Plays have been completed with John Taylor winning B Grade from Kristian Ward and C Grade went to Greg Barras from Matt Aylward. A Grade is still to be played off between Stephen Carrick and Greg Regoni. The Ringwood Singles K.O is down to the last four who are Peter Moffat, Lindsey Seymour, Wayne Miller and myself. The Mixed Four Ball final will be between M. Kostiw and D. Fraser vs J. Drummond and R. Forrest.

All cart owners with trailers are requested to park in the proper area near the Clubs front gate. The Club is now getting into its busy period and at times all car parking spots will be needed. A car and trailer with ramps can take up to six or seven car park areas which is very selfish.

All motorized cart and bike owners are reminded that all tees and greens are strictly off limits. Please stay 5 meters from Tees, Greens and Bunkers and make use of cart tracks — Thanks.

Congratulations to Margaret Playford on again being elected to the Riverina Ladies Golf Association as a Vice President and the Junior Promotional Officer.

In 2008 Corowa will be hosting the RLGA Foursomes Championship. As the end of the year draws closer so does the Ladies Annual General Meeting and some positions are still vacant. A good opportunity for those ladies wanting to give something back to the Club to put their hands up and nominate for committee.

Time also, to think about events for the New Year. Next year the ladies championships will be held on the 24th, 28th and 31st May 2008. Knowing the dates now gives those ladies that need to take holidays a chance to book them in early.

The Corowa Ladies this year are competing in a summer fourball pennant played on a Friday and consisting of 6 in the team, which is being played against Yarrawonga Border, Benalla and Wangaratta and starts on the 19th October with the final on the 30th November. If this event is successful in its first year, next year it will be looked at including more teams that are interested. So good luck to the ladies that play.

On Tuesday our junior girl Allie Parker along with Liz Cussen and Jeanette Aylward competed in the Holden Scramble at Kingston Heath (will let you know the result)

North Eastern District won the Country Teams this year. This event is match play and is played on several courses in the Melbourne area. Corowa had Debbie Eason and Liz Cussen playing in the team with Judy Black present also as the NEDLGA President. Congratulations to the team on their win, the team went through undefeated.

There is still some match play event to be finalized so ladies please keep a check on the dates and get your games played early.

Answer to the Quiz Table of Contents

The player may remove the rake (moveable obstruction) as authorized by Rule 24 — 1. If the tree tips and leaves (loose pediment) is incidentally removed in the process, in equity (Rule 1 — 4) the player incurs no penalty and must replace the tree tips and leaves as nearly as possible at the spot where they originally lay.

See Decision 1 — 4/5.

And our thought for the month —

The World is moving so fast these days, that the man who says it cant be done is generally interrupted by someone doing it.
